Andrea Hurcombe
Clinical Safety Officer (CSO)
Clinical Consultant
With over 30 years of experience as an NMC Registered Nurse, I have worked in both Primary and Secondary Care, covering various areas of healthcare. My career also includes roles in the Healthcare Industry, such as National Programme for IT Healthcare delivery. Throughout my journey, I have managed numerous major projects, including serving as the Discharge Planning Project Manager across a Health & Social Care Economy, where we successfully implemented a unique Joint Partnership Agreement among three partner organisations. My involvement in various IT Healthcare Projects has shown me how technology can enhance patient care and support clinicians. I joined the National Programme for IT (NPfIT) in a Clinical Governance/Clinical Safety Team role, where we established and embedded Clinical Governance, Clinical Safety, and Quality Assurance processes to ensure the safe delivery of the NPfIT solution. I am a skilled practitioner in design, development, testing, and implementation processes, and thrive on findings solutions to challenges. Clinical Safety is my top priority, and I am passionate about delivering IT solutions that meet the needs and expectations of clients and end users. I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience that I am eager to share, so would invite you to connect.

I began my nursing career in 1990, where I developed a keen interest in IT Healthcare. This led me to a dual role as a trainer and delivery consultant for my Trust. Whilst I spent most of my clinical career in vascular surgery, becoming a Charge Nurse of a surgical unit, I transitioned to full-time IT Healthcare when I joined a software company. Over the years, I have held various roles and worked on numerous projects, including deploying EPR systems, Casenote Tracking, and Order Comms, in both NHS and private organisations. My experience has shown me the profound impact Information Technology can have on patient care, providing clinicians with precise tools for making informed health and treatment decisions. I was part of the National Programme for IT (NPfIT) team, delivering EPR solutions to acute hospitals in the South and London, ensuring they were fit for purpose and clinically safe. Previous work in the Middle East, involved implementing a risk and safety management system at a maternity hospital in Sidra, which underscored the importance of developing and delivering effective clinical solutions. With a wealth of knowledge accumulated over the years, I am passionate about enhancing patient and user experiences with healthcare systems.
